Sacramento’s premier business bank donates to local charity to support low-income families
SACRAMENTO, Calif.,—River City Bank, Sacramento’s premier business bank, continues to encourage future-focused development and support within the Sacramento area by donating more than $7,200 to St. HOPE Public Schools. These schools, located in the Oak Park neighborhood, serve more than 1,800 low-income students from grades PK-12 and provide a high-quality, rigorous college preparatory education, giving students a better chance of being accepted into college. “We believe that investing in those who live within the Sacramento area is synonymous with investing in the future of Sacramento,” said Steve Fleming, president and chief executive officer of River City Bank. “We at River City Bank support St. HOPE Public Schools in their commitment to provide students from less advantaged neighborhoods the opportunity to receive a first-rate education.”
River City Bank presented the donation check to two students from St. HOPE Public Schools during its annual client appreciation dinner, which was held on September 17, 2015. The donation amount consisted of contributions from River City Bank as a corporate entity and internal fundraising efforts from its staff. As a result of local giving and support from companies like River City Bank, St. HOPE Public Schools operates three public charter schools and a public preschool. The program has helped decrease dropout rates from 9.4 percent to 3.7 percent and has increased acceptance rates to four-year colleges nearly threefold, from less than 30 percent before the opening of St. HOPE Public Schools to more than 70 percent at present. The school focuses on five pillars to establish success for their students: high expectations, choice and commitment, extended school time, a focus on results and the power to lead.
“We are appreciative of the support that we have received from River City Bank. This donation will help fund the schools so that they can continue to teach children who are eager to learn,” said Erik Swanson, Superintendent of St. HOPE Public Schools. “With the contribution from River City Bank, we know that we can help the local community and build a better tomorrow for the Sacramento area.” To learn more about St. HOPE Public Schools or to make a donation, please visit sthopepublicschools.org or call (916) 649-7900.
